What needs to be articulated about Sen. Joe Lieberman:

Lieberman's best thinking helped plunge America into the Iraq fiasco.

Lieberman's many years as a Washington insider made him deaf to cooler heads who strenuously warned against rushing into a situation where angels might fear to tread.

Lieberman's failure to make a stand has helped the GOP rush through an intemperate last-minute law whereby an American could be charged with a federal crime for criticizing the conduct of the Iraq war.

Lieberman's supposed concern for "people not politics" ignores an unacceptable death toll among U.S. troops and the terrible problems now endured by law-abiding Iraqi civilians.
